As things pick up for Blindful it is very exciting to get to invite more and more talented people to come an be apart of this vision (pun 100% intended). I got to spend a week in Adelaide at LWD Hub as part of a creative residency. The week was spend exploring, developing and playing with two incredible dancers and circus artists Greta Wyatt and Ryan Darwin and the week was documented by the wonderful Bonnie Paku. Here is a bit more about these three incredible artists.
Ryan Darwin – Circus Artist / Dancer
Ryan Darwin, a self-trained artist, who once threw a pair of tomatoes up in the air and has never come down since. A worldly traveller from a young age, he believes you can find a way even in the most adverse circumstances to reach your destination – even if you’re lost 99% of the time. Ryan is a quirky, driven performer who uses a combination of juggling, Rola Bola, corde lisse and handstands to create moments of beautiful simplicity. His aim – to present circus at a human level, and enjoy the darkness along the way.
Greta Wyatt – Dancer
Greta studied at Adelaide College of the Arts and completed a Bachelor of Dance Performance in 2015. During her training she worked with choreographers such as Gabrielle Nankerville, Lee Brummer, Scotty Ewen, and Jo Stone, whilst collaborating with peers and other artists to create and perform various independent original works.
Greta has worked as a dancer and supernumerary actor for The State Opera of South Australia in two major operas, and has participated in multiple Adelaide Fringe Festivals. In 2016 she travelled to Sweden to work with independent dance company ilDance, in their annual youth company ilYoung – directed and choreographed by Israel Aloni and Lee Brummer.
Greta has a strong interest in bridging the gap between performers and audience, and aims to use interdisciplinary practices to create performance art in different and unusual environments.
Bonnie Paku – Videographer / Film Maker
Bonnie Paku is a freelance cinematographer. She has recently graduated with a bachelor of Media Arts majoring in Film and Television from the University of South Australia. During her study and since graduating she has been involved with TV shows for ABC and Feature Films as a crew member. In 2016 and 2017, she was a DOP for the Team Kids Channel Nine Easter Appeal which was broadcasted nationally. Bonnie is passionate about documentaries and producing, having recently directed and shot a documentary for the SA Music Hall of Fame called Yesterday’s Heroes.
